How long can a puppy/dog be left alone?

Don’t say ‘never’ i know they can be left alone but i’m not sure for how long.
Getting a Sprocker soon, when it is left, should it be in a crate.

Maximum it can be left?

You should not leave a young puppy (under 6 months old) for more than 2 hours really if you want to get it house trained. Puppies need taking outside to pee after every sleep, feed & playtime so every 1-2 hours during the daytime basically. You should ideally be home all day for the first 2-3 months when you first get your puppy so you can house train it.

Once the puppy has more bladder control & can go 2-3 hours between needing to pee then you can lengthen the time you leave it. I have 3 adult dogs & they can be left for 6 hours in the house no problem with water & toys. They sleep a lot now they are older but puppies need to play & have stimulation. Don’t get a puppy if you are not at home during the day.

Everyone says 2 hours which is ideal, but the reality is, unless you’re unemployed and don’t go to school, you might just have to leave your puppy at home for more than 2 hours. If you could have someone, like a friend or a neighbor, watch your puppy while you’re gone that would be best. BUT if you do choose to leave your puppy at home for any amount of time longer than a few hours then instead of leaving it in the crate I would close off an area that has easy to clean floors with baby gates, or a large bathroom could work. Put the puppies crate in there on one side and leave plenty of water and some food in the area. Put a pee pad on the other side away from the food and crate (be sure to familiarize your puppy with the pee pad first). And leave some kind of toy in there that the puppy can’t easily chew up or swallow. Of course it’s not the ideal situation but I had to do this when I got my puppy and he was potty trained just fine and is now 2 years old and doing great. Hope this helps!

teach your dog to come when called. Use a long line, call your dog if he does not come your correction will be to pop the dog into you and praise him. Read here https://tr.im/8mL4l

You could use a clicker. Call your dog when she comes click and treat.
The treat has to be something your dog is nuts over. As the handler you have to be more interesting then what is across the street. Use your imagination, I have worked with dogs in the past when the owners called their dog they would turn and start walking the opposite direction then just sit down. The dog out of curiosity would come back to check on the owner. Do not chase your dog. Dogs tend to enjoy the chase game. You did not mention if your dog is bolting out of the door to get out or not. If this is the case teach your dog the wait command at the door. This means no you can not go this time. This is a problem that a lot of people have if their dogs. If you take a lot of time with your dog and are consistent with your training it will work. If your parents see that you are working hard to fix the problem and they see an improvement in your dog your chances will be better for keeping her. Also have you thought of doing 4-H with your dog?

The thing about proper dog training is that the more you know, the more you can use towards training your dog. If you have gotten a new dog or puppy, you should work on training them right away. If they are going to be indoor dogs, you can start crate training them . This prevents bathroom accidents or your items being chewed on. Start off with the right sized crate, so that they have enough room in the crate to move around a bit.

If you are trying to crate train your dog or puppy you must understand that you can not expect them to be able to hold their bladders for extremely long periods. You must provide times for them to go to the bathroom. They don’t want to go in their special place. So it is up to you to take care of them. If they have a accident don’t get mad at them, it wasn’t their fault it was yours.

When teaching your dog discipline, regardless of what training method you use, you should always apply it with speed and consistency. Not correcting your dog for bad behavior every single time, sends him mixed signals that may only make the problem worse. Likewise, not correcting your dog immediately, may make it hard for him to understand why you are punishing him.

My pup is now fourteen weeks and in the beginning she just went into the cage to rest and sleep and overnight. Slowly building up the time to enable me to slowly to have a life of my own.

Now I can leave her for a maximum of two and a half hours if I have to, but I also have a unemployed lad that will come in and let her out and play with her if I need to be longer or the timing in her routine is wrong for going out.

But I have never shut up my older dogs for more than four hours maximum and again will pay someone to come in if I need to be longer. They then get let out and some fresh air.

2-4 hours and Hello a Sprocker is not a proper breed, a Sprocker is a hybrid cross between a springer and a cocker, you will not find a sprocker spaniel registered with any kennel club!

WTF is a SPROCKER? Is that one of those stupid, made-up names for a mutt? If so, I do hope that you are adopting from a shelter/rescue, and not lining the pockets of some scumbag backyard greeder. You don’t give a puppy age, so no one can answer your question. What you would have to do, if it’s a young puppy, either come home every few hours to let the pup out, or hire a licensed/bonded pet sitter to come in. If you want to get a mutt, please go to your local shelter/rescue, and adopt a homeless dog.

DON’T put a dog in a creat it’s harsh it can only be left alone in a creat for 1-2 hours BUT i leave my dog In my utility room and you can then leave them for up to 5 hours if u give them a walk before I do to my dog and he’s fine a creat is mean to dog don’t get a dog if ur gunna out it in a creat u wouldn’t like to be left in a creat for a hour of 2.

I hope you’re getting this mutt from a shelter and not some scummy BYB/puppy mill
Puppies cannot be left alone long, 2 hours max.

3 hours but make sure I it has food and somewhere to go to the toilet. A crate would prevent it running around and playing. It would be safer but I wouldn’t suggest it as they are full of energy and will get very agitated in a crate.
